It’s that time to embark on the adventure that is starting your baby on solids for the first time. It’s exciting yet overwhelming as there are a lot of do’s and don’ts when beginning your baby on solids. Then there are all the baby feeding products in the baby food isle that can definitely get your head spinning. All of the sudden you begin to miss the simplicity of baby only needing milk but rest assured I have you covered.
Below is a list of feeding products I found to be super helpful when starting my little man on solids. These are products I recommend wholeheartedly and absolutely loved. They worked well for my baby boy and I. However, keep in my mind every baby is different so be sure and do your research to figure out what fits best for you and your baby.

Graco DuoDiner 3-in-1 Convertible High Chair: Of course to start your baby off on his/her solid journey, you’ll need a highchair. This is the one we have. We have had no issues with it. It isn’t too bulky. It moves around easily. It has a removal tray and machine washable cover that makes it easy to clean. Babies’ are messy when it comes to solids so items that are easy to clean is a win in my book.
Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup: The reason I chose to go with this sippy cup is because it is recommended by dentists’. This cup is designed like a regular cup where your baby can sip from anywhere along the rim which helps support normal muscle development in a child’s mouth. I LOVE this cup because not only is it supportive to baby’s mouth development but it’s easy to clean, easy for baby to hold, and does not leak at all. I have tried the straw sippy cup and was not a fan. Luke would just bite on the straw and they were a pain to clean (way too many parts).
>>TIP<<When I gave this sippy cup to Luke for the first time, he obviously didn’t really know what to do. I removed the lid and tipped the cup for him so he could drink the water. I did this every time for about a week so he would understand the concept that there is water in the cup and that he just needed to tip and sip the cup. He eventually understood and was able to drink from it with the lid on like a pro! It just took a little patience and persistence.
Bibs: There are a TON of different kinds of bibs out there like any product. I found that the large bibs to be far better than the smaller bibs. Feeding baby solids is messy business and food gets everywhere so larger bib covers more space. I also prefer bibs that you can throw in the wash versus having to hand wash it and hang dry. Why? It saves time by just throwing it in the washer. And saving time is essential when you have a baby who is over eating and needs to be cleaned up. I always ended up throwing the hand wash bibs to the side, forgetting to wipe right away, and literally having to scrub it to get the gunk off of it. NO fun.
Munchkin 12 Piece Soft-Tip Infant Spoons: These spoons are perfect for Luke. They are nice and soft for his gums especially when he is teething. They are easy for him to hold. They aren’t too big for his mouth and not too deep so he can actually get the food off of it. And they come in fun colors (totally not necessary but still fun). 🙂
Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder: I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this product in three of my posts. I can’t say enough great things about it. I love products that serve more than one purpose. It’s great for when your baby is teething, it keeps your baby busy for more than ten minutes (major mom win), and you don’t have to worry about a choking hazard. You can put whole fruits and veggies in there and just allow baby to suck on it; getting all the nutrients without worrying about big pieces breaking off. I love giving Luke frozen mango or blueberries.
Food Processor: If you plan on making your own baby food, you will need some type of way to mash or puree the food. This is what we used. It’s super inexpensive and serves the purpose. There’s no reason to spend money on a fancy “baby” food processor.
Ice Cube Trays: This is also an essential item if you plan on making your own baby food. This makes it so you can make baby food in bulk and save it for a few months. It’s the perfect amount for baby.
I hope these items make your life a little simpler when embarking on the exciting, yet overwhelming journey that is introducing your little one to solids. Check out my post on Twelve Fast and Simple First Solids for Baby to Try for ideas on what to feed your baby.
